Choosing a wedding photographer is less about style than you think
My free guide reveals the 10 questions that actually matter — helping you find someone who’ll capture your day naturally, without endless posing or stress. Find Out More
Most couples only book a photographer once.
It’s easy to get caught up in packages, prices, light, colour and editing style — but the real difference comes down to personality, approach, and how it all feels on the day.
Because when couples look back at their gallery later, what they remember isn’t the style.
It’s how they felt while the photo were being taken.
Whether they were relaxed
Whether the day flowed
Whether they forgot about the camera.
That’s what changes the pictures.
The 10 questions in my free guide are the ones I love being asked — because they show couples care about great photography, having their wedding captured authentically and about simply enjoying the day.
Here are a few of the questions from the guide, along with examples of my answers
– Will you direct us throughout the day, or capture things as they happen?
I’ll gently guide you when it’s needed — for example, during portraits or family photos — but most of the day, I step back and let things unfold naturally. That’s when people forget the camera and the real magic happens.
– How do you help couples relax and forget the camera is there?
It starts long before the wedding – getting to know you, understanding your personalities, and earning your trust. On the day, I blend in with guests, chat naturally, and never make anyone feel “on show”. The less you think about the camera, the more authentic your photos will be.
– How do you capture the emotion of the day without posing people?
I watch closely. It’s about anticipation — seeing a moment build before it happens and being in the right place when it does. I never interrupt a hug or ask someone to “do that again.” Real emotion can’t be recreated; it’s either there or it’s gone.
